The Scoop on FEWnet

Hello FEWnet friends!

I hope you had a very happy holiday season and this issue of FEWnet Just Dessert finds you ready to embrace all that’s ahead in 2011!

Our FEWnet community had a busy 2010! Our Annual Party in May brought over 200 of you together for an evening of appetizers, wine tasting, networking, and an inspirational message from Kim Mageau that people are still talking about!  This past October we held our Technical Breakfast at Golden Valley Country Club: The Road to GAAP and IFRS Convergence. Our experienced panel (Mary Jepperson, Christine Battist, Heather Proehl, and Amy Shaw) covered this important topic from every angle. We walked away with a greater understanding of how our own companies will be affected by Convergence. If you could not attend, you’ll find some links to helpful web sites on IFRS Convergence in this issue of Just Dessert.

And, of course, we have more informative and fun events planned for 2011 so stay tuned for details. We’d love to see each and every one of you this year!

Here at Certes Financial Pros we had an exciting year gearing up for the future with the introduction of Accounting Now, our lighter lever division, and the rebranding of our permanent placement division to SNI Financial. We are happy to truly be your full-service staffing partner - from clerk to CFO! Or, if you are in the midst of a job search yourself, let us put our network to work for you. We welcome the opportunity to assist you in your job hunt.

Enjoy this first issue of Just Dessert for 2011 – it’s full of information and tips, including a profile of Technical Breakfast panelist Amy Shaw, body language mistakes women make in the work place, and much more!

Take care,

Sally Mainquist, CPA

Trust your own instinct. Your mistakes might as well be your own instead of someone else’s.”  ~ Billy Wilder

Let’s start with a nugget of advice from Amy Shaw, UnitedHealth Group Vice President of Accounting Policy and SEC Reporting: “Don’t be afraid to ask questions, and don’t be afraid to make a mistake. What’s the worst thing that can happen? You’ll try again or maybe order pizza!” It’s this innate optimism and fearlessness that make Amy a true gem in our FEWnet community.

Read on to find out how this Minnesota native and FEWnet Technical Breakfast expert panelist believes that when it comes to life we should all just “Go for it – What have you got to lose?!”
