The Scoop on FEWnet

Hello, FEWnet friends!

I hope this finds you enjoying all the great things September brings us: football season, apple orchards, cooler temperatures, and warm pumpkin spice lattes! Even though fall is here, I’m still feeling energized from our Annual Spring FEWnet Event held in May. Nearly 200 of you joined us for an evening of networking with likeminded female professionals in finance and accounting. Highlighted by Kim Mageau’s keynote talk centered on the theme of Climbing the Corporate Ladder in a Skirt, I walked away from the evening with a skip in my step! I am still inspired and motivated by Kim’s message of leadership and by all the connections I made – I hope you feel the same!

If you weren’t able to join us for our spring event, consider attending our Fall Technical Breakfast on Wednesday, October 27 at Golden Valley Country Club. The focus is The Road to GAAP and IFRS Convergence; certainly a relevant topic and one we can all benefit from learning more about. Please stay tuned for more details - we would love to see you there!

On the home front here at Certes, we have some exciting things happening! In addition to sponsoring FEWnet, Certes is the Twin Cities’ premier provider of top-tier, high-caliber finance and accounting talent. While we focus primarily on filling our clients’ needs at the senior level, we are pleased to announce our sister division, Accounting Now, which will service the clerk to mid-level needs of our clients. This partnership will allow us to be your full-service accounting and finance staffing partner – from clerk to CFO. If you have any staffing needs now or in the future, kindly consider us for the job. On the flip side, if you’re in the midst of a job search yourself, we welcome the opportunity to partner with you.

Enjoy this issue of Just Dessert – it’s chock full of great information including book recommendations, a profile of a longstanding FEWnet member Jen Bradway, a recap of discussions within our small groups, and much more!

Take care,

Sally Mainquist, CPA

“Some people dream of success while others wake up and work hard at it.”  - Unknown

Optimistic. Driven. Dedicated. Approachable. These are just a few of the words we would use to describe Jen Bradway, Director of Financial Planning and Analysis at Ingenix, a $2 billion division of UnitedHealth Group (hot off the press - she just started in this role last week!). Jen’s steady career progression and pursuit of higher education are reflective of her strong work ethic and drive to succeed. Having grown up in Cottage Grove, Jen received her bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, and later received her MBA from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. She now makes her home in New Brighton with her husband Brian, 2 ½ year-old daughter Sophia, and Corgi-mix pup named Cloe.

Jen launched her career as a new graduate working in audit for Ernst & Young. After three years in public, she made the leap to industry as a Senior Financial Analyst with a former audit client, Secure Computing, which was later acquired by McAfee. Within Secure Computing, Jen proved herself and moved up in the organization by way of roles including Manager of Revenue Operations, Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis, and ultimately Director of Financial Planning and Analysis. Thirsty for a new challenge in her career, Jen joined the Ingenix team as Director of Financial Planning and Analysis. In this capacity, she is responsible for work across the organization with the strategic business unit CFOs and finance teams related to budgeting, planning, forecasting, and business analysis. A team-player in every sense of the word, Jen has a way of building relationships and achieving results that have earned her a stellar professional reputation… oh yeah, and a trip to the Bahamas!
